Preliminary assessment
on the state of conservation
|
|
The whole surface appears uniformly covered with
a patina of honey color, probably fruit of a preceding protective
intervention based on wax that has suffered a chromatic alteration.
The face of the statue is the more altered part, infact are present
many interventions of restauration that consists in stucco and reconstruction
of some parts like for instance the cheek and the nose. Again cause
of the preceding intervention of restauration is present in any points
of the face patinas of yellowish color, these are visible in all the
parts previously assembled and stuccoed (neck, shoulders, elbow and
left wrist, left knee).
The statue isn't of the same period, infact the head, probably of
the Roman period, has been assembled to a bust of Renaissance period.
It is visible their attack at the height of the neck. The left hand
is lacking of his finger index. |

Restoration plan
|
|
After a preliminary cleaning with a brush to
soft bristle to remove the superficial incoherent deposits, has
been proceeded with small proofs of cleaning with carbonate of ammonium
and cotton with final aim to give a chromatic uniformity to the
statue.
We have the head as point of reference, because that results be
the part that opposes better resistance to the action of cleaning,
thank to its more porous and altered stone.
Finished the cleaning have be tried a reconstruction of the lacking
finger.
Finally we proceed with the protection of the statue using a layout
of wax.
